Frequently Asked Questions

I have compiled a list of the most common questions I encounter from my patients based on 15 years of surgical experience

Why should I choose private care?

Choosing private care offers faster access to appointments, tests and treatment, often at times that suit you and your family. It also allows for longer consultations, giving more time to ask questions and discuss your concerns in detail. The standard of surgery and clinical expertise is the same as within the NHS, but private care provides a more personalised and timely experience, helping you feel reassured and supported throughout your treatment.

Is NHS Care worse than private care?

The NHS provides excellent care and I am proud to be part of it. The difference with private care is not the quality of surgery or medical expertise, but the experience around it. Private care usually means faster access to appointments and treatment, greater flexibility in scheduling, and more time during consultations to talk through your questions in detail. Many patients choose private care for the reassurance of timely access and a more personalised approach, while knowing they are still receiving the same high standard of medical care.

Does private health ensure better health outcomes?

Private health care does not necessarily change the quality of surgery or medical expertise, as the same consultants often work in both the NHS and private practice. What private care can provide is faster access to appointments, scans and treatment, along with longer consultations and a more personalised experience. For many patients this leads to greater peace of mind, less waiting-related stress and a smoother care journey. The clinical outcomes are held to the same high standards, but the path to receiving that care is often more timely and tailored in the private setting.

Can I use private health insurance?

Yes, I am recognised by a wide range of insurers. The related fees and plans are determined directly by your provider. I work with the following insurers:

  • Allianz

  • Aviva Health

  • AXA Health

  • AXA – Global Healthcare

  • Bupa

  • Bupa Global

  • Bupa On Demand

  • The Exeter

  • Vitality Health (Pru Health)

  • Westfield Health

  • WPA

If you are insured with one of these providers, please check your policy for details of your cover and any authorisation requirements before your appointment..

I have been offered other treatment types such as radiation, why should I choosesurgery?

Surgery is one of several treatment options and it is not always the right choice for every patient. In some situations surgery offers the best chance of completely removing or reducing a tumour, relieving pressure on the brain or nerves, or addressing the underlying cause of your symptoms in a single procedure. Other treatments such as radiation may be more suitable depending on the type, size and location of the condition.

When we meet, I will take time to review your scans and medical history, discuss all available options, and explain the benefits and risks of each. The decision is always made together, with your safety, long-term health and quality of life at the centre.

This is why I encourage my patients, where possible, to seek multiple opinions and discover what is most applicable to them based on their own desired health outcomes.
