Haemangioblastoma
Definition
A haemangioblastoma is a benign, highly vascular tumour typically occurring in the cerebellum, spinal cord, or brainstem.
Prevalence
Rare. May occur sporadically or in association with Von Hippel–Lindau (VHL) disease.
Symptoms
Headache
Balance problems
Vision issues
Weakness or sensory loss (spinal lesions)
Symptoms related to associated cysts
Diagnosis
MRI with contrast
Screening for multiple lesions in suspected VHL
Genetic testing when indicated
Treatment Options
Microsurgical removal (often curative)
Observation for small, asymptomatic tumours
Radiosurgery for select cases
